Jooyoung Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. He is an urban ethnographer with interests in crime, interaction, culture, and health. He is currently finishing a book entitled, Blowing Up: Rap Dreams in Los Angeles, which is under contract at the University of Chicago Press. This study examines how the creative process transforms the social worlds of urban black men. His most recent study, Wounded: The Aftermath of Gun Violence, is an ethnography of gunshot victims in Philadelphia. Amongst other themes, this study examines the long-term health consequences of injuries sustained in shootings. His work has been published in Social Problems, Social Psychology Quarterly, Ethnography, The Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, and other peer-reviewed journals.
