Incorporating a MITACS internship into Your Graduate Program

Students associated with the Centre for Global Social Policy and/or The Department of Sociology are invited to attend a workshop about MITACS internship opportunities.
MITACS offers a number of opportunities for MA and PhD students to work with a Canadian private or non-profit partner for a paid internship while enrolled in graduate studies. While the partner needs to pay a portion of the salary, the funding from MITACS is often enough of a subsidy to incentivize partners. Ideally, a MITACS internship provides value both for the student intern and for the partner. For Sociology graduate students, a MITACS internship has the potential to provide access to a participant pool, a setting for participant observation, access to organizational data, and networking opportunities. PhD students wishing to conduct their dissertation with a MITACS internship should plan early, especially if they want to use a non-profit organization that may need to conduct their own fundraising campaign to fund the partner portion. Other possible partners that may be of interest to Sociology students include Canadian municipal governments and think tanks.
