Be sure to catch PhD candidate Kayla Preston’s three recent features on CTV and Global News. Speaking with CTV News for a segment titled “UK PM condemns violent far-right riots”, she discusses how the recent far-right protests in the UK reflect longstanding Islamophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment, including from far-right politicians, and argues that government responses should include a clear condemnation of Islamophobic discourses from politicians and news outlets. In a feature with Global News’ Morning program, Preston also notes the role of social media in far-right movements, stressing the importance of holding accountable those spreading disinformation.

Kayla Preston is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology. Her research examines far-right extremism in Canada and the United States. She is currently studying how youths become involved in and work to uphold far right youth organizations.
