Congratulations to Professor Patricia Louie, winner of this year's Outstanding Graduating Sociology Student, PhD Award! This award was created by the Canadian Sociological Association in 2013 to help Sociology Departments recognize their top graduating students. During her time at the University of Toronto, Professor Louie made significant contributions to the research community. She published five peer-reviewed articles in top journals such as Social Science & Medicine, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and American Journal of Epidemiology. Her work was also featured in major news sources such as Toronto Star, CBC, and National Post.

Professor Louie's research focuses on social factors and their impact on racial disparities in physical and mental health. Her work examines relevant and important topics such as racial categorization, the explanatory role of racial identity and skin tone, and temporal contingencies in the link between race and well-being. She is now an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington and a Research Affiliate at the Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology.
